25 Rules of flying

Today I was introduced to the 25 rules of flying. If you are not aware that such rules existed you are no worse off than I was – luckely they can be found online and you are not bound to live in ignorance.

.. if you are going to San Francisco …

Posted in Just Stuff on March 13th, 2006 by thrane

The time is nearing where we (29 other students and me) are going to San Francisco to visit some of the largest and most interessting companies in the software industry. For the past 6 months now I have been in contact with emplyees at companies like Google, IBM and SUN to arrange a visit during the 10 days we are there, and now finally it looks like everything is comming together. I’m looking very much forward to hearing what the companies are expecting from us and what we can expect in return. Now all we need is a bit of luck with the weather (read: nice and sunny) and it looks like this is going to be an extremely cool trip.

Oh yehr, do I need to mention that most of our expences are sponsored, just as an added bonus ;)

If you feel like it you can read more about who we are and what we are going to do and see on this: website – I’m very sory to say but it is only in danish.

IBM – the company you love to hate

Posted in Just Stuff on March 7th, 2006 by thrane

I have always loved the look and feel of IBM products. This is why I in spring 2004 bought an IBM Thinkpad X30 which I have been – and still are very happy about. But for a short while I desided to run Linux on my little companion – don’t ask me why but shortly after installing linux I saw the need of having a windows mashine handy for all sorts of purposes.

Since I never thought I would feel that way I went ahead and deleted the recover partition on the machine, from which the BIOS would reinstall windows in worst-case scenarious. Now having desiced to rejoin the darkside (read: the windows people) I deaply regreaded having deleted the partition – but what the hell i thought, when I bought the laptop it came with a windows licence – it shouldn’t be a problem to get IBM to send me a fresh copy on a CD?! – well .. wrong!

Since my Thinkpad was bought referbished, It is nolonger (in 2006) covered by IBM guarentee and the couldn’t send me a recover CD free of charge – fair enough, I’m willing to pay a shipment fee – but wait – the support guy wanted 500,- dkkr (50,- pounds) for mailing me a non-original copy of windows – and there was more, since my thinkpad was originally sould in a germain speeking country – the would only send be a germain windows.

Well – so long and thanks for all the fish – and I houng up!

I’m not going to pay twice for a licence to run a copy of windows thats for sure!
